BY CAR

This is a great option if you are traveling in a group or are not a far drive from the Cape.

There is no bridge to the island. You can drive to Woods Hole, Massachusetts and park there (you will see signs for parking when you get close to the ferry), then take the ferry over as a passenger.

Or, if you would like to bring your car onto the island, you can do that as well. In that case, contact the Steamship Authority for a reservation. Please note — you DO NOT need your car to get around the island — but we have parking and would welcome you to bring it if you prefer.

BY PLANE (ONLY)

Depending on your location, you can fly directly to the island or fly a final leg on Cape Air. It’s generally more expensive than flying into Boston and then taking the bus, but depending on your location and time constraints, this could be a good option.

1/ TAKE THE PETER PAN/BONANZA BUS FROM SOUTH STATION TO WOODS HOLE/CAPE COD. The bus lets you out directly where the ferry will pick you up to come from the island. You DO NOT need tickets in advance – they can be purchased at the bus station right next to where you get on the bus – just look for the window that says “Peter Pan/Bonanza”.

[BUDGET OPTION] FROM BOSTON AIRPORT
**************************************************
Note: THE CLOSEST AIRPORT (AT CHEAPER RATES) IS BOSTON LOGAN AIRPORT. If you find a great deal flying into NYC or Providence, RI, those are fine alternatives. But it’s easiest and cheapest from Boston Logan in most cases.

1/ TAKE THE PETER PAN/BONANZA BUS FROM BOSTON/LOGAN AIRPORT TO WOODS HOLE/CAPE COD. The bus lets you out directly where the ferry will pick you up to come from the island. You DO NOT need tickets in advance – they can be purchased at the bus station right next to where you get on the bus – just look for the window that says “Peter Pan/Bonanza”.

[NOTE: PETER PAN ALSO HAS BUSES FROM SOUTH STATION. From the airport, this involves an extra bus ride on the Silver Line ($2 fare - pickup at the airport every 10-12 minutes - quick ride to South Station). This may be worth the extra leg in some circumstances, but in many cases it will not.]

2/ THE PETER PAN BUS WILL DROP YOU OFF DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE FERRY. You DO NOT need tickets for the ferry in advance. You can just buy them at the office right there when you get off of the bus.

The Vineyard Haven ferry will arrive right next to Main Street, and you will be only 3 blocks from the bed & breakfast! To get here, walk straight toward Main Street. Take a right onto Main Street. Cross the street. You will see the house on the left side about a block and a half after the French restaurant Le Grenier. You can’t miss it!

TRANSPORTATION ON ISLAND
***********************************
If you are coming for a group event – we will take care of all of your transportation – bikes – buses – walking tours. :-)

If you are not here with a planned group event OR want to venture off on your own at some point, it is REALLY EASY to get around walking, by bus, and by bike. We do not have stop lights or undergrounds, and the highest speed limit is 45 miles per hour. It’s really safe on the bike and walking, to say the least!

If you wanted to rent a car for a day and zoom around, there’s a great car rental place right down the street… but in many cases this is not necessary.
